Art-Interplay
Who we are – a work biography

Art-Interplay refers to the interdisciplinary interplay of music, dance, drawing, film and other art forms. The “Interplay” ensemble was founded in 2017 by the artist Joerg Hufschmidt in order to merge experiences with improvised music, performance, sound art and drawing in a multimedia form of performance.
The cast with the artist Joerg Hufschmidt, the dancer Ingo Reulecke, the artist Ulrike Schoeller and the musician Joachim Zoepf sees itself as a performing body representing an artistic sphere of activity in the connection of dance, performative, musical, filmic and graphic work that breaks new ground in the interplay of the structured and the improvised. A performance by Interplay aims less at the ostensible confirmation of aesthetic attitudes than at a respectful meeting of autonomous art forms, which is expanded by a reflected, performative and musical thinking of the actors.

Topics of our way of working are, on the one hand, the expression and translation of the existential motifs and motivations of the artists into other media, and on the other hand, exploring the implementation of new forms of communication among each other as well as with and towards a public.

Here and now – current status

Our appearance in February 2020 at the Sprengel Museum Hannover was the last “pre-pandemic” live event for the ensemble.
Our subsequent communication in view of the Corona crisis could be described as a fragile growth zone.
This culminated in the performance of “Interplay & Guests” in December 2020. A collaboration between Interplay and guests from Berlin, England and Italy was brought together with the massive integration of digital communication platforms (such as Zoom, YouTube Livestream and pre-productions).
We understand the approaches, conversations and rehearsals that have been developed up to this point as a process that deals with the questions of the origin and translatability of existential and ephemeral gestures. What is new is not the content or the procedural moment in our way of working, but rather the different seams and places in which the artistic impulse tries to feel and justify its counterpart.
